"Great location, accessible hours of operation, variety of training modes, individual attention. These instructors know how to keep you learning & keep you interested. The lessons and workouts are strenuous enough to be worthwhile both from learning and health standpoints, but not enough to drag you down. You always feel GOOD after a workout here, about your progress, about your health and about yourself." Rich Killeen, Tae Kwon Do student
|
"Nice teachers and nice students! It's a place where you'll want to stay. Students get one-on-one attention. Enthusiastic teachers. Good schedule of classes. All ages are welcome!"
|
"It was not difficult to get excited each class because my instructor, Jamie Thornton White, was so enthusiastic about self-defense. I really enjoyed the class and found it very beneficial. I have been able to show others what I have learned from this class and help them feel the same confidence I do. The world really is dangerous at times and anyone can become a target at some point. It is so good to know that I can defend myself and possibly protect others from an attacker. I am thankful to Jamie for the time and effort she put into our class to help us feel safer." Amanda Chastain, self-defense student

"The atmosphere at Lyndell is great for all members of the family, regardless of age. My step son and I started together over two years ago and we can't wait for my 2 year old daughter to start training with us. She is already participating in the Tyke Kwon Do program and learning so much for such an early age." Shawn Traman, Tae Kwon Do student
|
"Lyndell is an amazing place to discover skills to help you focus better in and out of class.
Not only is it terrific stress relief, the environment is both nurturing and challenging. The instructors create an environment where we as students support each other and make each other better. You truly learn that both in class and in life our belief in ourselves can overcome the physical challenges we feel are in our way. Lyndell is like a second family."

"My 7 yo daughter and I began taking Tae Kwon Do at Lyndell about 13 months ago. I cannot say enough about the amazing instructors and the wonderfully supportive family environment they have created. They make learning this physically and mentally challenging martial art a great deal of fun. The instructors are unbelievably positive and encouraging. It is a tremendous place for children to learn about respect, self discipline, self esteem, and form lasting friendships. I really cannot say enough about the program for children and adults at Lyndell Institute. I would absolutely recommend this school to everyone and anyone wanting to improve their quality of life!!" Renee Nowakowski, Tae Kwon Do student

"I have to tell you that I truly thank God often for bringing you (and all of Lyndell) into our lives. You are so absolutely amazing with my kids. I can't imagine not having you as a part of our lives. You have an unbelievable gift and I am so glad you chose to share it. I honestly feel my kids will be better people in the long run just for having known you."

"Lyndell Institute is the best choice to start your training in Tae Kwon Do. The Instructors have years of experience; they really enjoy sharing their knowledge with the students and are always excited to see each person's individual progress. This is one activity the entire family can do together to have fun and to stay fit at the same time. With so many activities available in addition to class training, the students develop many friendships as well."
Mariah Echele, Tae Kwon Do student

"I am new to the martial arts and the experience at Lyndell has me kicking myself (pun intended) that I did not start earlier. Their professional approach makes the classes productive; and, their friendly attitude makes it a pleasure to return. It is amazing how the get the most out of each person, each class no matter what their skill level or their age. Cudos to the whole staff." John Meara, Tae Kwon Do student

"I remember the first day I came to your [self-defense] class I was a shy, introverted girl, good at pretending confidence on the surface, but filled with self-esteem issues on the inside. I have always been this way, but your class has helped me immensely. You have taught me to be bold, not only on the outside, but to walk with confidence on the inside as well. Your joyful personality always lifetd my spirits, no matter how terrible a day I had been having. I have enjoyed your class much more than I thought I would. I remember when my mother insisted I sign up for it, all I could think was I am never going to need this stuff but you have given me priceless information to keep myself safe, and I thank you for that."
Becky Ames, self-defense student, 8 weeks

"There are so many options at Lyndell Institute for all fitness levels. I am now taking Cardio Kickboxing, which is a real workout.
I have also tried hypnosis for nail biting and it has worked incredibly. My nails are now long and strong, with no urge to bite them. This was a 20 year habit broken with a 1-hour hypnosis session. I will be forever grateful." Jenna DiModica, student
|
"I lost a full freakin' inch in 1 month on my waist. Yippee. Jamie and Sharon are wonderful!!" Samantha Iverson, Cardio Kickboxing student
|
"Thanks for your time, energy, skills, knowledge, and creativity in this class. I'm having a blast learning more about me and some abilities I never knew I had!"
Katie Hough, self-defense student

"Tae Kwon Do and Cardio Kickboxing are great for losing weight, getting muscles, and having fun! The instructors are very nice and make you feel welcome. My Tae Kwon Do teacher, Ms. Sharon Thornton, is very nice. She is a great instructor. She helps you on moves that you may not get. Miss Jamie Thornton White is a great Cardio Kickboxing teacher. You get fit really fast and you gain muscles."

"Just to let everyone know the 'benefits' that yoga and fitness have given me...I received a great score in my annual check-up with my neurologist. She can't even tell I have MS [Multiple Sclerosis]. Thanks for everything!" Tina Clore, student

"Lyndell Institute is one of the most unique businesses I've ever known. To the outside world, it's a place where one learns Tae Kwon Do or practices pilates or yoga. Step inside and you will learn what makes this place so special. It begins with instructors that not only teach, but also offer things that nourish the mind, body, soul and heart. Fear is met with kindness, and loneliness is met with friendship.
Members take an oath that they are united in mutual friendship. The camaraderie of the members is evidence that the oath is not just recited, but embraced. This is most evident on testing days. Many students who are not testing or taking a class will go far out of their way to show up and support those who are testing. My child has been the happy recipient of their hugs and their congratulations since she began and I believe it has contributed to her success in Tae Kwon Do.
Sharon and Jamie are unique individuals who bring a whole new feeling to an art form that can sometimes appear harsh and stoic. Their energy, creativity and warmth are weaved into each class and makes for a positive experience for everyone.
As the mother of a child with Asperger's Syndrome, I feel as though Lyndell Institute is an oasis for my child. It's the one place I know that she can experience acceptance, encouragement and self-confidence."

Dear Sharon and Jamie,
I can tell you that as impatient as I get at times with what seems like slow progress to me, I am so pleased with the progress I have made. It motivates me to continue to do more and do better. So please disregard my whining when I seem distressed that things aren't going as fast as I would like. And thank you for being so patient and supportive of my efforts.
In the past 10-15 years, and especially in the past 3 years, the bitter cold has had terrible effects on my joints. Many mornings it was a struggle just to get through a morning routine of showering, fixing my hair, etc. I can say that even with all of the nasty weather we have had this winter I have had not one single day that my joints have ached this season!!!
Over the years I have tried various forms of exercise and until now have never found anything that enabled me to achieve any results, mostly because I got so bored so fast that I didn't stick with it long enough. Now I miss it terribly if I cannot make it to class because of work, holidays, or other commitments.
Never in a million years did I ever think that I would be able to do yoga. Now I find that it is the highlight of my week. It is so wonderful that it almost makes me feel guilty, like I'm really "getting away" with something. It is the best "me time" activity in the whole wide world.
As the Supervisor of a large Physical Therapy department, I work many long hours and in the past have often let my job get the best of me. There are days where this still happens, but I now have the energy to focus more at work so I can get out of there at a reasonable time to get to class, and I find that when I am in class the rest of the world just doesn't exist and I can put my responsibilities out of my mind for awhile. Prior to being involved in your classes it was an effort just to drive home at night, eat dinner and crawl into bed.
I actually did a Tae Kwan Do class! OK, I stressed out the whole time I was in there, but my hope is that some day I can get past my self-limiting attitude and actually give it a real try. It is such an amazing art form and I am so impressed with your patience and teaching techniques.
The supportive, friendly and "family" (no one is a stranger) atmosphere at Lyndell Institute is only surpassed by the teaching and nurturing skills of you two. I have met soooooooo many kind and friendly people there. I feel very blessed to be able to spend time with you and all of the new friends I have made attending classes. What a wonderful concept to be able to spend so much time around nothing but positive energy where people are so supportive of each other!!! If only I could bottle that positive energy and spread it at work ah, the possibilities would be limitless.
To say "thank you" for the gifts you give on a daily basis just doesn't seem to be enough, but I don't know how else to express that sentiment. I hope that some of the things I have said here can help you to show potential students why it would be to their benefit to become a part of Lyndell Institute.
I wish you nothing but continued success!

Dear Sharon and Jamie:
I just want to say that I am so thankful to have you both in my life, not only as my teachers, but as my friends as well. I am so glad that I found Lyndell, because I enjoy the peaceful environment that it has, and all of the wonderful services provided there. Through taking yoga, I learned how to overcome some of my emotions and fears, which used to get the better of me. I have also noticed that I have become a better person from what I've learned. I am so glad to have met you all. Thanks so much for all of the wonderful things you've taught me. Also, I wanted to say that I am really excited to start taking self-defense.

Self-Defense Classes
"I feel it has been a privilege to take this class, especially when it was taught by such a positive instructor. The class turned out to be fun, but the best thing about it is that I got the chance to learn things physically and mentally to better myself. I can honestly say that self-defense has been the most interesting class I took thus far in my college education. Every week in the past 8 weeks I have looked forward to coming to self-defense. There was only one problem: it only lasted 50 minutes a day, 2 days a week. As far as your training goes, I personally believe it couldn't be any better. You provided the class with several devastating attacks and moved up to some grappling techniques; from there we learned defense moves and reversals. You made sure everyone was on the same pace. Whether it took one on one training or group training. On top of all things, the class remained safe and no one got hurt. Overall, the class and the training was excellent. I feel a lot more confident about myself. I feel this is because I had you as a teacher. Each day you came in the class with a good mood and a smile to make everyone feel comfortable. I also think you provided the proper training in any situation that I can get into. Thank you for the excellent training. It was a good experience and has been a pleasure." Jon Oliver, self-defense student
"After I have taken this class, I find myself walking taller and I find that I have much more confidence when it comes to defending myself. I think this class is very unique. There is no way I would have ever known how to defend myself during an attack. I would have probably just started swinging. Hopefully I will never have to use my self-defense training, but now I know I will be fully prepared to do so." Casey Dierkes, Self-Defense student
"I enjoyed learning about all the vulnerable parts of the body and counter attacks. I always thought that if I was to be attacked that I would just claw and fight until I got out of a hold. Now with the basic moves I've learned I concentrate on certain parts of the body. This class was very helpful and makes me more confident in being by myself. I would recommend this class to any of my girl friends." Jenn Beckmann, self-defense student
"Over the last 8 weeks, I have learned many useful techniques that could someday save my life. In addition to learning many different techniques, my confidence level has also risen to a new high. The moves I was taught are very effective and do not require a great deal of force. This is important, because it is reassuring to know techniques that would be just as effective on someone your own size, or someone twice your size. I really enjoyed taking self-defense class. The techniques I learned and knowledge I gained will most definately be beneficial to me in the future. I now plan on furthering my knowledge by practicing Tae Kwon Do. Thank you for the wonderful class." Justin Smith, self-defense student
"Now that we are at the end of this class, I wish it was longer. I think this should be a required class because it is beneficial to every one to learn not to be a victim. It's about learning how to avoid becoming a victim, how to exude confidence, and if you are attacked how to use your whole body to disable your attacker and get away from the situation. Over all I really enjoyed the class and you are such a fun, goofy teacher. I wish all teachers were like that. I will definately recommend this class to others. And continue to practice what I learned." Jene Ahrens, self-defense student, 8 weeks
"I took this class for this reason. I wanted to feel more in control of bad situations that come my way and I wanted to increase my self-confidence. Learning self-defense to me means taking control of your life. This class has provided me with a lot of valuable information about defending myself. I feel more confident and powerful. Now I know more about the power I possess. Both of you are very inspiring women and I am glad I got to meet you. Your classes are very positive and have helped me gain more self-confidence within myself. Thank you!" Linsey DeSantis, self-defense student
"During the last 8 weeks of self-defense, I have really established a sense of self-confidence. A sense that if I was put in the situation of being attacked I would be able to free myself. Throughout the class, you taught us multiple techniques. You tried to prepare us of any possible way we might be attacked, such as directions, grabs, holds, ground fighting, and even how to disarm weapons from an attacker's hands. I truly enjoyed the class as a whole. I thought it was very informational and fun all at the same time." Dori Neighbors, self-defense student
